Atlas Ballers started in 2017 as a group of international school kids who just wanted to play. No programme. No coaches. No plan. Just 12 of us, a basketball, and a dream to compete against the local scene. Seven years later, we are 240 athletes strong — and we’re just getting started.
In 2017, a group of international school kids in Kuala Lumpur had a simple problem — they wanted to compete in a men’s open basketball tournament, the Statsports League, but had no team and no club to represent.
So they built one. John Lee, 15 years old at the time, gathered 11 friends and formed Atlas Ballers. No programme. No coaches. No formal structure. Just 12 teenagers who wanted to play basketball against the local scene — and prove that international school kids could hold their own.
The motivation went deeper than competition. There was a gap between the international school world and the local Malaysian basketball community. Foreign kids who loved the game had nowhere to go outside of inter-school tournaments. Atlas Ballers was built to bridge that gap — to give international school players a home in the broader KL basketball scene.
For five years, the club ran on pure passion. Players came and went, games were played, friendships were forged across cultures. Then in 2022, everything changed.
“We just wanted to play. We wanted to be part of the local scene — not just play amongst ourselves. We wanted the best of both worlds for our kids.”
Every drill, every game, every season is in service of something bigger than winning. We want kids to leave Atlas Ballers more confident, more disciplined, and more connected to the world around them — regardless of where they came from.
From 12 friends in a gym to 240 athletes across multiple programmes, leagues, and national competitions. Here’s what the journey looks like in numbers.
The Atlas Ballers team is a mix of founders, former players, and coaches who’ve lived this journey from the beginning. Everyone here has skin in the game.
Heads Atlas Ballers alongside Atlas Solutions — SE Asia’s premier UK-accredited security company. A former international school student himself, he understood the gap between the expat and local scene better than anyone — and built Atlas Ballers to close it.

Born 2004 · Atlas OGEvery person on this team is here because they believe in what Atlas Ballers stands for. Coaches who were once players. Managers who were once kids in international school. We build this programme because we know what it means to be on the outside looking in — and we never want another kid to feel that way.
Atlas Ballers is connected to Atlas Solutions PLT — Southeast Asia’s premier UK-accredited close protection training company, founded and led by Clement Chew.
Atlas Solutions serves Fortune 500 companies, royal families, and ultra-high net worth individuals across Malaysia, Singapore, and Cambodia. It is the only company of its kind in the region to hold UK accreditation for close protection training.
The connection matters because it means Atlas Ballers benefits from organisational rigour, professional management, and institutional backing that most youth sports clubs simply don’t have access to. We are not just a passion project run on goodwill — we are a properly structured organisation with the resources and infrastructure to deliver on our promises to players and parents.
The Atlas name stands for something in both worlds. In security — precision, professionalism, and trust. In basketball — development, community, and excellence. The values are the same.
We started with 12 kids and a dream. We’re now 240 athletes strong — and there’s room for more. If you’re an international school player who wants to develop, compete, and be part of something bigger than yourself, this is where you belong.
