Atlas Ballers Basketball Club has confirmed it will fully sponsor a 15-player squad into the 2027 MBL U-20 Development League — covering every cost from registration to coaching, kit, media and player welfare. For the players who earn their place, the only job is to show up ready to compete.
The MBL U-20 Development League sits within the Major Basketball League Malaysia ecosystem, run by the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) as part of the national effort to build a genuine domestic basketball pathway. It is one of the most significant stages a U-20 player in this country can compete on, and from 2027, fifteen Atlas Ballers players will be on it.
This is not a one-off entry or a short-term recruitment exercise. The squad will be drawn from players who have come through the Atlas Ballers competitive pathway — the U14, U16 and U18 programmes — and who have shown the commitment, attitude and development the club expects. Selection will be earned over the course of the year, not handed out.

The club is funding the campaign in full. That includes the MBL team registration fee, all venue hire for pre-season and in-season training, professional coaching before and throughout the season, full game and training apparel, ongoing media coverage to build each player's profile, and physiotherapy support for player welfare and injury management across the campaign.
In short: every financial barrier that would normally stand between a young player and a national-level league has been taken off the table.
Selection will be merit-based and assessed across the full season. Coaches will weigh attitude and coachability, commitment to the Atlas Ballers pathway, attendance and dedication, basketball ability and game readiness, and clear improvement over time. Talent alone will not guarantee a place.
"As Head Coach, I am responsible for selecting, training and preparing our athletes for competitive matches as well as skill development.
We've always been a club built on player development, so our priority will always be the players who've walked the path with us.
These are the ones who've trusted the process and put in the work over their whole journey. We're not here to bring in 'imports' who just want to play but won't commit to Atlas.
Honestly, winning isn't the most important thing to us; the experience our young players take from a stage like this will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
We'll be watching closely to see how they perform through the MPBL Season 4 and 5 before we make our final calls."
— Ben Olajide, Head Coach, Atlas Ballers
Our participation in the 2027 MBL U-20 D-League marks the first time we're stepping into a semi-professional league.
Most of the roster will be made up of younger players aged 15 to 17, led by our Atlas Ballers Elite players born in 2007 and 2008. We prioritise development alongside commitment to the Atlas programme — players who show a marked improvement in their skill and a high level of coachability will have a strong case to make our long list, and eventually our shortlist, as the year progresses.
— Clement Chew, Director of Basketball Operations, Atlas Ballers
For the selected fifteen, the 2027 season offers a genuine measure of where their game stands; competing against the best U-20 players in Malaysia, on a stage where every match is livestreamed and footage follows them well beyond the court. The D-League feeds toward the senior professional ranks, with top MBL clubs competing in Basketball Champions League Asia and the ASEAN Basketball League.
Getting picked is a credential in itself. It means a player earned it through progress, performance, attitude and the willingness to keep working when selection was never guaranteed.
Players across the U14, U16 and U18 competitive teams will be monitored throughout the season, with selection confirmed ahead of the 2027 campaign. Eligibility requirements, including Malaysian citizenship, will apply.
For Atlas Ballers, the message to its players is simple: keep putting in the work. Talent may open the door — but commitment will decide who earns a place.
